The Most Outstanding Amateur Pianists

Yamaha and The Pianist magazine put on a fabulous show at London's Cadogan Hall on 17 November, with the 2007 grand final of the Competition For Outstanding Amateurs. The event, in association with Classic FM, TheJazz & Jazzwise, presented three classical and three jazz finalists, all of whom played to an amazingly high performance standard on Yamaha's flagship CFIIIS hand-made grand piano.
The distinguished panel of judges gave the classical award to Dominic Piers Smith (pictured top of page, bottom right), who works in aerodynamics for the Honda Formula 1 racing team. Dominic's prize will be to perform a concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Cadogan Hall in 2008. Music teacher, Will Michael (top of page, centre), was the jazz winner. He will play with Julian Joseph's band at a top London venue in 2008.
Classical Judges: Piers Lane, Noriko Ogawa, Martin Roscoe & Barry Wordsworth.
Jazz Judges: Jamie Cullum, Julian Joseph, Jason Rebello & Gwilym Simcock
