Yamaha supports FMS's whole-class instrumental teaching research

Yamaha's annual support for the Federation of Music Services (FMS) contributed in 2009 directly to an impact evaluation of Wider Opportunities (WO) - the free one-year whole-class vocal and instrumental teaching scheme for primary school children aged seven to 11. The January 2010 report, 'Wow, it's music next', describes a scheme which is of world-class quality, and also suggests areas for further development.

imageYamaha UK announces strings winner for Ireland's 2010 YMFE scholarships

The annual Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe (YMFE) scholarship in the Irish Republic was won this year by cellist, Sarah Joyce, a final-year student at the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM) in Dublin. She is awarded a prize equivalent to £2,000 (sterling) to help her complete her studies and take her first steps in her professional career.

imageMusicQuest ends on a high with national primary school tour

At the end of January 2010 the MusicQuest project took its inspiring classical music project to more than 5,000 primary school children in its third and final annual UK schools' tour. A collaboration between the Prince of Wales' Foundation for Children and the Arts, the Philharmonia Orchestra, Classic FM Music Makers and Yamaha, it demonstrates the power of collaborative projects of this nature to inform and inspire.

imageYamaha Jazz Experience 2010 competition prize fund confirmed

Yamaha Music UK has announced that, in addition to the prizes for the three winners of the Yamaha Jazz Experience ensemble competition - prestigious London gigs at Ronnie Scott's, the 606 Club and the Bull's Head jazz club in Barnes - the company will also provide a prize fund of £9,000 worth of Yamaha gear, to be shared between the three winning ensembles at the finals at Cheltenham Jazz Festival in May.

2009 Yamaha Birmingham Accompanist competition announces winner

The winner of the 2009 Yamaha Birmingham Accompanist of the Year Award (YBAYA), organised by Birmingham City University and Yamaha Music UK, is Yshani Perinpanayagam, who fought off the three other piano accompanists at the finals in Birmingham Conservatoire's Adrian Boult Hall on 22 November to win a cash prize of £1,500, donated by Yamaha, and the chance to give a recital.
